Given the recent news that Jollibee has announced its expansion to Canada, I thought it would be appropriate to put the spotlight on an underrated Filipino treasure, Filipino styled spaghetti. Jollibee is a famous Filipino fast food chain and one of my favourite items on its menu is Jollibee spaghetti. Filipino spaghetti differs from common spaghetti because it is much sweeter (a taste that all Filipinos can relate to!). Because of this, spaghetti is usually served at children’s parties.
The secret is that Filipino spaghetti has sugar in it. Right, people actually add in up to a 1/4 cup of white or brown sugar alongside sweeter variations of ketchup like banana catsup. Although cheese is usually considered a must in the usual circumstances, cheese is certainly optional in this dish. Instead, substitute with diced hotdog or ground beef. I’ve also had variations with sliced carrots. This is a great dish to have on the go, although messy, I find it totally addictive to eat.
