POP-ETC

Let’s start the New Year with Brooklyn-based indie pop/rock band, POP ETC.

Formerly known as The Morning Benders, POP ETC started in 2005, when lead singer and songwriter Chris Chu was a student at University of California, Berkeley.

They released their first EP, Loose Changes, in September 2006. The group released their first studio album, Talking Through Tin Cans, in 2008.

Despite the lineup and name changes, POP ETC has gained a lot of attention since their early beginnings. A few of their tracks have been featured in soundtracks, such as “Excuses” in Chuck, “Speak Up” in The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn Part II, and “is” in anime Zankyou no Terror.

The group released a new single, “Running in Circles”, and a music video January 5th.

I love this single and its music video. The video is very simple, but the concept is brilliant. You have Sifu Chen Ying, a Wushu Master, doing his thing, as the song plays. While you’re humming to the tune, you’re also captivated by Chen Ying’s movements. The grainy filter also adds to the “old school” vibe of the video.
