As the saying goes, it’s never too late.   Taiwanese idol queen, Joe Chen (陳喬恩) is entering the world of film with Breaking the Waves <激浪青春>e, but the twist is that it was actually filmed in 2010.   Directed by Patrick Leung and produced by John Woo.   Originally set to open in China in December 2010, the premiere date was eventually canceled and shelved until 2014.
Set to premiere in China again in June 2014, Joe portrays the rowboat champion Ruan Xiaoyue, and Huang Xiaoming as He Tianhua, Xiaoyue’s dragon boat trainer-boyfriend.  A lighthearted summertime romance story, Breaking the Waves is about Xiaoyue, a fiery and irritable dragon boat trainer who learns patience from her sunny boyfriend, Tianhua.    Joe Chen’s abilities have always been undoubted having been nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Television Series for her role in Fated to Love You at the 43rd Golden Bell Awards.  But in 2013, her popularity rose in China, where she gained a large number of fans, when she appeared in “Swordmans” as Dongfang Bubai.  Perhaps this is the time for her to strike at last in the world of film.
