Inspire 2012 w/ Jason Chen - Concert Review

February 7, 2012 Bernie Yee Comments

As Jason Chen puts it, “music never sleeps”. For the past four years, the 22-year-old Taiwanese-American singer has uploaded dozens of videos onto YouTube, each demonstrating his soothingly smooth vocals. Covering artists such as Bruno Mars, Neyo and Usher, Chen has built a solid fan base that continues to grow with each passing day. For his lucky fans in Vancouver, they had the chance to hear him sing live.

Taking place at the Croatian Cultural Centre on February 4th, Jason Chen headlined the third instalment of the Inspire Concert series. Brought to you by I AM MADE Entertainment and sponsored by World Vision and Sanpachi Ramen, the event was hosted by Nicki Sun and Emmanuel Nsenga.

Opening for Jason were Brock Zanrosso, Raiel, and Dan Bremnes. All three were acoustic acts, and featured songs such as “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon, “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot, as well as a Trey Songz medley. For those that went to the Clara C concert back in September, they might remember Raiel.

After a short 15 minute intermission, a quick draw occured that saw one of the audience members win a nice $100 dollar gift card to Metropolis at Metrotown, a local shopping mall.

Jason Chen then made his way on to the stage to an overwhelming amount of cheers from the audience. Performing alongside a keyboardist and instrumental tracks, the talented 22 year old opened his set with a Vancouver exclusive never-heard-before Valentines Day song.

He would then go on to perform various songs such as “Count on Me” and by Bruno Mars, “Price Tag” by Jessie J, “No One” by Alicia Keys (the lyrics deeply describes his passion for music), as well as a Chinese song by Leehom Wang called “Wei Yi”.

In between songs, Jason talked about World Vision (a portion of his merchandise profits were donated), as well as his fans that inspired him. Jason even brought all the gifts he received from VIP fans and thanked each and every one of them onstage!

After singing “Umbrella” by Rihanna as the final song, chants of an encore erupted from the crowd. Without hesitation, Jason sang an acapella version of his latest single, “Best Friend” after it was requested. Having earlier said that his fans were his inspiration and motivation, it was definitely a nice gesture.

Despite his set being quite short (it lasted just over 30 minutes), there’s no doubt that fans were satisfied to hear one of their favourite singers live. With a genuine soul, Jason Chen has won the hearts of all his fans (I reckon he’s really good with the females), and continues to leave a mark inspiring many others.
