Japanese soup ramen is a dish well known throughout the world and is enjoyed by many, but how many people would love it so much that they’d bathe in it?
The Yunessan spa house in Hakone Japan has collaborated with well known ramen shop, Nantsuttei in Hadano city, to create a ramen themed bath. The main attraction is that customers are able to bathe in ramen “soup” made up of pepper-flavored water that has been colored a light milky brown to simulate tonkotsu (pork bone) soup.
Giant decorations help set the feeling that customers are really bathing in a real noodle bowl, with massive chopsticks holding noodles over the massive bowl. Customers are fed synthetic noodles while they bathe, as real noodles were banned by the health authorities.
Apparently, having a “noodle bath” is good for your skin and will increase metabolism. Ichiro Furuya, owner of the unique spa, says that people have been more concerned about their skin lately and that knowledge of the health effects collagen (found in the broth) has for the body.
The spa also has several other baths that simulate the customer in other contexts, such as bathing in green tea, coffee, sake and red wine. However the idea of cleansing yourself with food and drink may seem peculiar to many, so it could be a while before everyone is bathing in noodles.
