With the passing of away of North Korea’s former leader, Kim Jong Il apparently requested to his son on the night before his demise that the people of North Korea would be provided with a special treat of fresh fish. Since fish was considered a luxury in the country, you can imagine how big of a deal this was to the North Koreans.
In the 1990s a famine ravaged the country while Kim presided, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Food shortages still occur today in the hermit country.
An official media report from North Korea stated that “Salespersons and citizens burst out sobbing at fish shops in the capital city on Friday” as well as featuring images of the citizens crying out in thanks to their leader in front of fish market stores.
Many citizens are still slaves to Kim’s propaganda declaring their love for their former leader. The media report also stated that the dictator gave his “heart and soul” to provide his people with fish all year round.
