Japan wins Women's World Cup over USA in Penalty Kicks

On Sunday, July 17th 2011, Japan won the FIFA Women’s World Cup over the favourites United States of America in penalty kicks 3-1. This win marks their first World Cup finals victory as well as their first win over the USA in 26 attempt. They have dedicated this whole tourney for their nation and also their friends and families that have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in March.

After each game, the team unfurled a banner saying, “To our Friends Around the World — Thank You for Your Support.”  After each game, Team Japan would unravel a banner saying “To out Friends Around the World – Thank You for Your Support”. On Sunday, they showed the banner before the game and then after with a new banner saying, “Champions.” In addition to their title as champions, they can also add “First Asia Champions” as they are the first female soccer team to win a World Cup. Congratulation Team Japan for winning the Women’s World Cup from AX3 and fans all around the world.

In addition to the World Cup, several players from Team Japan received individual awards.
