Starting January 1, 2011, selected McDonald’s restaurants will begin to offer wedding banquet services. In place of traditional expensive food, such as shark fin’s soup or roasted pork skin, McDonalds Hong Kong will offer fast-food banquet of French fries for starters, sundaes and milkshakes for dessert, and soft drinks for wedding toasts, complete with the restaurant’s background tunes. With the wedding cake, McDonalds will offer specially made apple pies, burger of your choice, or even a Filet o Fish! Read on more after the jump!
Further defying all common beliefs, instead of using cherries for newlyweds to eat together and kiss, McDonalds will substitute that with French Fries. All this will only cost you a few thousand HK dollars, including food, wedding cake, and gifts, compared to HK $200,000 to HK $400,000 for the more regular hotel wedding banquets. HK will be the first in the world to launch this programme. Elsewhere, McDonalds’ weddings will be carried out on a one-off basis. These weddings will first be rolled out in 3 locations : Admiralty, Mei Foo and Smithfield in Kennedy Town. Further locations will be implemented depending on the success of this campaign.
The idea for this apparently started when the Admiralty location received a number of requests from people who wish to have their wedding party held at the restaurants. According to McDonalds’ director of corporate communications & relations HK, they recieve about 10 calls a month, with people saying that they had dated here, met here, or wanted to get married. This is also a reflection of the incomes of young HongKongers – up til recently, many fresh graduates are having difficulty finding a stable job, and can only earn HK $10,000 to HK $20,000 a year, not enough to settle in after marriage.
What are your thoughts on having a wedding at McDonalds?
